We are currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate Nursery Chef with full understanding and experience of providing nutritional meals for babies and young children.

We are looking for a conscientious person who is able to produce menus to a high standard that caters to the variety of children's dietary needs, particularly intolerances and food allergies.

It is imperative that you are enthusiastic about the role, showing that you are organised, creative, self-motivated in creating menus and understand what requirement is needed for under 5’s promoting healthy eating.

Our amazing client are offering £21,000 per year plus they offer a pension scheme.

Basic tasks

  • Prepare a rolling morning tea snack to be available all morning.
  • Prepare dinner and set up appropriately to serve.
  • Ensure water is available all day for the children on the trolley
  • Prepare a rolling afternoon tea to be available for the children all afternoon.
  • Clean all the cooking and eating; plates, cups, pots, pans, cutlery, etc.
  • Ensure the kitchen is of a high level of cleanliness at al times.
  • Ensure all documentation required is filled out and followed.

Kitchen Maintenance and Hygiene

It is your responsibility to ensure that the kitchen is kept to the required level of cleanliness and housekeeping expected for this top quality nursery. Your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring you keep to the kitchen cleaning procedure.
  • Use appropriate chopping boards and utensils for the different types of preparation.
  • Use the appropriate equipment for washing up.
  • Keep cupboards tidy and clean.
  • Ensure that at all times your hair is kept short, tied up or in a kitchen hat, you have short clean nails, you wear an apron and maintain a high level of personal hygiene.
  • Ensure that all food is appropriately stored and stored in airtight containers if needs be.
  • Record fridge temperature and ensure that it is at the appropriate temperature at all times.
  • Record food temperatures for the children as per the system in place.
  • To be responsible for the risk assessment within the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensure that the safeguarding policies are read, understood and adhered to.

Ordering

  • To review upcoming meals planned and to order all of the food and ingredient requirements that will be needed for the nursery on a weekly basis. This may also include some further advance planning for bulk buying and upcoming events that need to be planned for and may also need to face info account the needs of individual rooms.
  • If ingredients/ food items are missing or have not been ordered, initiative and flexibly needs to be used to modify the menu so that the children are stilt served an appropriate planned meal replacement.

Meal production

  • It is your responsibility to produce the meals, snacks and drinks to the required quality and quantity at all times. You are expected to keep to time scales and to be able to respond to unforeseen needs as they arise.
  • You need to ensure that all statutory and nursery rules and procedures applicable to the provision of food and the operation of the kitchen are followed and complied with.
  • You are expected to liaise with other members of the staff to obtain suggestions and feedback regarding the provision of meals, ensuring that meals are as appetizing as possible.
  • You are expected to be aware of and cater to all of the needs of children with food allergies and special food requirements for cultural, spiritual and personal reasons.
  • You are expected to be aware of the need and provide for a variety of food from different cultures as a part of the children's Foundation Stage Curriculum; focusing on Know/edge and Understanding of the World.
  • You are expected to enable the nursery to ensure that parents consider the provision of meals to be of the high standards that they expect.

General

  • It is expected that you will respond to the needs of the nursery and requests of the manager and team with regards to your work.
  • You are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct at a" times. The Code of Conduct is displayed in the office and can be found in the Nursery Handbook.
  • As a member of the nursery team, you are expected to share ideas with regards to and to enact the nursery policies and procedures which support the smooth and optimal running of the nursery.
